| Deep In The Zone, Working on a new song June 2026 |
Back in early 2020, when the world just... stopped. Airports empty, streets dead quiet, schools shut, everyone stuck at home wondering what the hell was going on. It was unsettling, no question — there was real anxiety in that stillness. But somewhere in the middle of it, I found something I didn’t expect — time. Actual, uninterrupted time to think, to reassess, to create.
Before all that, music had always been there in the background for me, ticking along quietly while I worked away in the day job. I never chased the label thing or worried about what was commercial. Songs just showed up when they showed up — sometimes sparked by something personal, a memory or a relationship, sometimes by bigger stuff, the climate, the universe, whatever questions happened to be rattling around my head that week. Music was just how I thought things through. There was no grand plan. It moved at its own pace, evenings and weekends, whenever there was a gap.
Then 2020 happened. By March, with work hours cut and the world gone quiet, I asked myself the same question everyone was asking — what do I do with all this time? And the answer arrived without much drama at all. I’d write a song.
No big plan behind it. Just something to do, something to hold onto in a strange, uncertain stretch. One song became two. Two became an idea — ten songs, a full album, something achievable but still exciting given how unpredictable everything felt. That album would become Light Within. The title said it all really — the world was full of fear and confusion, but there were these small sparks of clarity showing up too, and I wanted to capture that contrast.
But here’s the thing about creative momentum — it doesn’t always stay in its lane. Only a few weeks into writing, with the ten songs well underway, something started nagging at me. What if ten wasn’t the point? What if it was a hundred? The idea grew fast once it landed. Not one album — ten. Not a quick project — something stretched out over the best part of a decade. And a finish line: November 2029. Nine years. A hundred songs. Ten albums. Daunting, honestly, but it also felt right — like the scale matched what I was actually trying to do.
Light Within came out in February 2021, and the catalogue’s kept growing since — Dark Epiphany (July 2021), Ratio of Providence (January 2022), Pierced by Love (February 2023), Silence Is Loud (April 2024), Black and Red (December 2024), Polar Resolve (November 2025). Seven albums down now, each one its own little snapshot — a different headspace, a different set of questions, a different version of me at that point in time. Looking back, they read almost like a musical diary of the last few years.
And right now? Album eight. I’m working away on it quietly, same as always — no rush, no fanfare, just letting the songs find their own shape in their own time. The horizon’s still 2029, but it gets a little closer with every song finished. More on this one soon.
